I have looked at yahoo messenger on a different computer but cannot find my old messages.

Sorry but message archives are saved on your computer so you would have to be on that computer to access them. And by default yahoo messenger deletes all messages in the archives everytime you sign out of Yahoo Messenger unless you manually change this setting to always save your messages.

Yes, you need to Un-install the current Y!M version to upgrade to Y!M 10.

Remember, Before you in-stall the New Y!M 10, please
do an Offline Search, in your Drive C, Delete the Yahoo Messenger Folder and contents.
Reboot your computer for a Clean Install of the New Y!M 10 version.
